# Finish setting up the practice

> The settings an admin should check, in order, before the first booking.

After setup, an admin should work through **Settings** in this order. Settings is at the bottom of the sidebar, and only admins can open it.

## 1. Check Settings › Overview

**Settings › Overview** shows the steps left before you can take bookings, each with a button to the right place. When they are done, it says Ready to book. These steps don't set up payments, SMS or Medicare.

## 2. Practice details

In **Settings › Practice details**, check your practice name, logo, ABN, contact details, time zone and opening hours. Tick GST registered only if the practice is registered for GST. Select **Save**, then **Confirm details**.

The practice address comes from your primary location.

## 3. Locations

Each location is a place you see patients. In **Settings › Locations**, select **Add location** for each one. The primary location's address appears on letterhead and invoices.

When a location closes, archive it rather than deleting it. Existing records still show it.

### Private locations

> [!NOTE]
>
> Not every practice has this yet. Bilby turns it on for each practice. If you can't see it, contact Bilby support.

Turn on Private location for an address patients must not see, such as a practitioner's home. Patients see "Telehealth" instead, except on a Medicare statement and the assignment of benefit form (DB4). A private location never appears on online booking pages.

## 4. Users

See [Invite your team](https://docs.bilby.health/getting-started/invite-team.md).

## 5. Services & fees

**Settings › Services & fees** holds what can be booked (services) and what can be charged on an invoice (fees). Then tick each practitioner's services on their profile. See [Choose a practitioner's services](https://docs.bilby.health/getting-started/practitioners.md#choose-which-services-a-practitioner-offers) and [Billing and payments](https://docs.bilby.health/billing/overview).

## 6. Payment methods

**Settings › Payment methods** lists the ways patients can pay, such as card, cash or bank transfer. If you use Xero, choose a Xero account for each one so payments land in the right place.

## 7. Connect what you need

Connect only what your practice uses, under **Settings › Integrations**:

* [Medicare](https://docs.bilby.health/integrations/medicare-setup.md) for bulk bill, patient claims and DVA.
* [HICAPS](https://docs.bilby.health/integrations/hicaps.md) for private health claims on the spot.
* [Xero](https://docs.bilby.health/integrations/xero-setup.md) for accounting.
* [Payments (Stripe)](https://docs.bilby.health/integrations/stripe.md) for card payments and paying online.
* [SMS](https://docs.bilby.health/integrations/sms.md) for texts and replies.
* [Email sending](https://docs.bilby.health/integrations/email-sending.md) to send email from your own address.
