# Set up Medicare

> Register a PRODA device, activate it in Bilby, and check Location IDs and your HPI-O.

Medicare online claiming connects Bilby to Services Australia through a PRODA device registered to your organisation. Once it's connected, Bilby can send bulk bill, patient rebate and DVA claims, and check patients' Medicare details. How to claim is on [Medicare and DVA](https://docs.bilby.health/medicare/overview).

## Register a device in PRODA

Do this in PRODA first. Bilby can't do it for you.

1. On **Settings › Medicare**, select **Open PRODA portal** and sign in as someone who can manage your organisation.
2. Register a new device for Bilby.
3. Note your PRODA organisation ID, the device name and the activation code.

The activation code works once and expires the next day, so activate the device in Bilby straight away.

## Activate the device in Bilby

1. On the **PRODA setup** tab, select **Activate device**.
2. Enter the details from PRODA, with the device name exactly as PRODA shows it.
3. Select **Activate**.

When it works, the card shows your device as active.

## Location IDs

Every location that claims needs a Medicare Location ID. Bilby gives each active location one automatically, including ones you add later. Check them on the **Location IDs** tab.

## Check your practice HPI-O

Bilby uses your practice's HPI-O for identity checks. Enter it on the **HI Service** tab and select **Save**. Bilby saves it only if the HI Service says it's active.

If you're told a CSP nomination is required, nominate Bilby (Vendor Id YCP00000) as your contracted service provider in HPOS, then check again.

Once the HPI-O is active, verify each practitioner's HPI-I from their profile.
