# Troubleshooting Medicare and DVA

> Fixes for common Medicare and DVA claiming problems.

### "Save Medicare details before verifying."

Save the card first, then check it.

### "Medicare IRN is required."

Enter the IRN. Use 1 if you don't know it.

### "This IHI is already assigned to another patient."

Two records may be the same person. Check for a duplicate and [merge them](https://docs.bilby.health/patients/merge.md) if so.

### "This practitioner is missing a Medicare provider number."

Add the provider number for that location on the practitioner's **Locations** tab.

### "Add the patient's DVA file number before claiming from DVA."

Add it on the patient's **Details** tab.

### An invoice isn't in a batch

It may already have a claim, belong to another practitioner, or (for patient rebates) not be fully paid.

### A PRODA or security key message

Don't keep trying. An admin fixes it in **Settings › Medicare**.
