# Bulk messages

> Send one SMS or email to many patients, now or later.

> Not every practice has this yet. Bilby turns it on for each practice. If you can't see it, contact Bilby support.

Bulk messages send one SMS or email to many patients, now or later. Use them for practice notices, such as a practitioner away sick. They are not for marketing. Admins and reception can use them.

## Send a bulk message

1. Open **Messages** and select **Bulk messages**, then **New bulk message**.
2. Choose SMS or email, and who it goes to: patients with appointments, or all active patients.
3. Check the list and untick anyone who shouldn't get it. Patients Bilby can't reach are marked and won't be sent anything.
4. Write the message and check the preview.
5. Choose to send now or schedule it, then confirm.

> A message sent now can't be taken back. Texts past your SMS limit are not sent.

## Change or cancel a bulk message

Open the message on the **Bulk messages** page to see who got it. While it is still scheduled, you can change the wording or time, remove a patient, or select **Cancel message**. While it is sending, **Stop sending** stops the copies that haven't gone yet.

Each patient's copy also appears in their conversation and message history.
