# Import from Halaxy

> Bring patients and history across from Halaxy.

**Settings › Import** brings patients, referrers, referrals, appointments and clinical notes across from a Halaxy data export. Nothing in Bilby changes until the last step.

Before you start:

* Ask Halaxy for a data export.
* Add your practitioners in Bilby first if you want appointments or notes. See [Add a practitioner](https://docs.bilby.health/getting-started/practitioners.md).
* To bring future bookings across, add the matching services in **Settings › Services & fees**.

Then:

1. Open **Settings › Import** and choose the export file.
2. Choose what to bring across, which dates and which practitioners. You can import the rest later.
3. Select **Check what will change**.
4. For each patient who may already be in Bilby, say whether it's the same person.
5. Select **Test the import** to see what would be added, then select **Import**.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Decide each possible match carefully. A wrong choice is hard to undo once notes are published on the chart.

When it finishes, select **Save summary** to keep a list of anything you still need to move across yourself. Attached files are not imported.

Running the import again is safe. Nothing is deleted, and nothing is added twice.

To upload documents for many patients at once, see [Patients](https://docs.bilby.health/patients/overview).
