A patient rebate claim asks Medicare to pay the patient’s rebate for MBS items they were charged for. How Medicare pays depends on how much the patient has paid, and the invoice tells you which applies.
  1. Open the invoice and find the patient rebate claim section.
  2. If someone other than the patient is claiming, or the patient wants different bank details for this claim, select Claim options.
  3. Select Submit patient claim.
Medicare usually assesses the claim straight away. If it says the claim needs review, open the claim’s menu and select Send for assessment within one hour. If it’s rejected, fix the details on the invoice and submit a new claim.

Cancel a patient rebate claim

You can cancel a claim only on the day it was submitted. Open the claim’s menu and select Cancel claim.

Claim several patient rebates at once

  1. On the Billing page, select Patient rebates.
  2. Choose the practitioner and tick the invoices.
  3. Select Review batch, then Submit to Medicare.
Only fully paid invoices appear. Each invoice is still its own claim. Fix any that fail on the invoice and send them again.
